This workshop explores the integration of the practice of psychology, ethics, decision-making,
and large language models (LLMs), like ChatGPT. Participants will examine the basics of
LLMs, use cases, foundational ethical principles, the Ethical Acculturation Model, and
strategies for integrating LLMs into clinical and ethical decision-making. Hands-on experience
with AI tools will be incorporated. This workshop requires interaction.
Participants will be able to:
1. List three current use cases of LLMs in the practice of psychology.
2. Describe two ethical considerations when using any form of AI technology.
3. Use one prompt for decision-making for any large language model.
4. Apply personal moral values in context of professional ethics for one vignette using a large
language model as a guide.
This program qualifies for 3.0 continuing education credits.
Level: Introductory: Assumes post-doctoral education status and limited familiarity with topic.
Audience: Designed for psychologists and other mental health professionals.

Dr. John Gavazzi has been practicing as a psychologist since 1990. He is Board Certified in Clinical Psychology and has a PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
He operates a private practice, provides expert testimony for legal teams in Pennsylvania, serves as an expert witness for the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology, and consults for the Bureau of Disability Determination.
Dr. Gavazzi has been involved in ethics education for over 25 years. He presents workshops regularly on ethics, the practice of psychology, mental health law, and decision-making skills. As founder of the Ethics and Psychology website (www.ethicalpsychology.com), he curates information highlighting the intersection of ethics, morality, psychology, and health care. Ethics and Psychology has an international readership with over 6 million-page views.
